How do you store a list of directories into an array in Bash (and then print them out)? -

i want write shell script show list of directories entered user , user select 1 of directories index number based on how many directories there are

i'm thinking kind of array operation, im not sure how in shell script

example:

> whichdir there 3 dirs in current path 1 dir1 2 dir2 3 dir3 dir want?  > 3 selected dir3! 

$ ls -a ./ ../ .foo/ bar/ baz qux* $ shopt -s dotglob $ shopt -s nullglob $ array=(*/) $ dir in "${array[@]}"; echo "$dir"; done .foo/ bar/ $ dir in */; echo "$dir"; done .foo/ bar/ $ ps3="which dir want?
